A Trial to Remember

Hello all!
I still cannot believe that our one week break is JUST GONE. JUST LIKE THAT. I havent even done any proper studying. But thankfully i only have two mid terms left, one next week, the other the following. Locking myself up at the reading room is probably the most effective thing to do. Of course, laptops are a big nono. Somehow the feeling is less guilty when you complete 1 question in 1 hour in the reading room, rather than 1 question in 1 hour in E210 with the laptop in my face, as chances are, i'll be using the laptop often!

Trials went smoothy and was a nice success!
We started out with 200m trials on tuesday, which Hakeem won and Elfi came in 2nd to qualify as our representatives for IVP. I Tried to hype up the whole event with small little things that took effort like number tags, lane logos for the blocks, and small omega signs, plus start list ect. My 200pm of 22.08s was never going to fall as i came in 4th at a lowly 22.6s :/ but no matter, i consider this whole week of trials as still part of my preparations and bulid up for IVP. Alitte Dejavu as I plan to peak in 2 weeks and similarly when i went to Vietnam for Taiwan 2 weeks later (: So hopefully i can lower my 400m Pb of 49.44s. (:
Wednesday was a total waste. The only two things that i can consider as productive was my ssc massage and road race time trial. I ran not bad, coming home in 8min 50! hahaha Looks like my long runs are working, as i do feel my aerobic is slightly stronger (:
I injured my left knee on thursday when i tried for the jumps trials :/ In fact it's still affecting me now. I think it's just a bruise or sore and hopefully no strain of any sort. I think it's my landing. Like i dont disperse my landing energy too well, coupled with the already half removed menicus, could feel the impact from the 3rd jump :/ Pleased with my efforts though, 6.33m for Long Jump, and 12.77m for Triple :D Not bad for my first ever jumps! Studied in reading room that night and it's really a magical place to study. Just me, my ipod and tutorials. haha
Limp didnt help and it was a growing worry as ice and panadol wasnt working as expected. Thought the night could heal some of it but it was quite bad. On friday, i really honestly felt i was in no condition to run. I could hardly jog without limping, and when i tried to do butt kick, a sharp pain ran through my knee. I really did not want to run, but this being the trials, it's now or it will raise questions or fairness ect ect. Nonetheless, I preservered and slowly did butt kicks and with help of deep heat and 4 tablets of panadol extend, i could stride alittle. I dont know, but when it was time to start, i suddenly felt no pain. Start was cautious and probably the slowest i had like my 400m start. hahaha Aim was top 4, and so i came in 4th (:
400m was even more of a joy. Drawn to lane 4, I just let Daryl pull me on lane 5, and after 250m i figured it was time to put in alittle effort as elfi had already overtaken me on lane 1. haha so i just kicked down the home straight and overtook him fairly easy and just strolled to the line in a cool 50.9s (: woohoo. Didnt even work up a sweat! hahaha

Thank god for my knee

Break over

I think deep down inside me i would like to be some secret service body guard with all the kungfu, bravery and weapon handling skills, and of course the cool looking sunglasses and ear piece (:

Light training at bedok stadium today. And met an old friend from st.pats!! Everyone really grew bigger. haha
Managed to finish my 4 rounds fartleg warm up before the rain came, long stretch as i caught up with the guy, who's name stil slips my mind. haha Then some sprints and curve sprints and cool down with exercises (:
I must say i've had a VERY SLACK 3 DAYS of much needed mental rest from school work (:
NUS trials 200m tmr and although i'm not looking for a fast time, a low 22 will do nicely. Hopefully our sports officer sean will put in some effort to help us rent the starting piston, but i highly doubt he will. Either way, we'll have clapper board and video cameras and windows movie maker to help us get a plus minus accuracy of 0.04s.
Amir, Elfi, Gareth, Sharman, Hakeem, Ceyi, Gonpot, Lance. woohoo. Lane draw will be like lucky draw balloting.haha
Anyway in any case, must plan out a study/revision schedule for this week, not forgetting F1 this weekend! woohoo! :D

Off to bed now. RACE ON.

NUS Trials

Ok, so the much needed one week break is finally here!! Had a pretty relaxing weekend and it's great how much i can sleep to regenerate myself. haha Anyways, next week will also be NUS trials. A pretty small affair but i try to hype it up alittle with logos and stuff, and trying to get sean, our sports officer, to get a gun for us. He is reluctant of course, because it means more work for him. but shall ty and push for it instead of the trials just being another training run. I want the guys something to look forward too.
The lanes have been filled quite nicely, 100 200 and 400 all have at least 7 participants, with 200 already full house! for men la. as for the women, noone apart from mel wants to run anything above 100m. Great. haha But i figure mel and kitfei will get 1-2 for 100m, so yujia probably have to take up 200m. As for 400m, only gloria is going good. I've no idea who our 400m hurdlers are. haha I still remb last year sharony was battling it out with a girl name beatrice from nyp! haha
Several good contenders for the 4 spots for 4x100m, including changxi, cassondra, yujia, joella, melanie and kitfei. And we still have the 2 100m hurdlers amanda and angel as back up reserves! haha 4x4 different story la.Got 3 willing person I'll be happy. haha Mel, gloria. And i cant think of any crosser girl who wanna/can run 400m. Havent seen haryati in training.

Flight to USA in dec have been booked! :D

The studio shot is the first glimpse of our photoshoot for winning TEAM OF THE YEAR -EVENT! :D
4x100. We won at the recent Triannual Intervarsity Games and 0809 IVP as well as a new IVP record (:

Softball trials went well i must say. Well it looks promising for one, secondly i'm quite pleased the way I conducted the trials. Structured and efficent in spotting who can or cannot catch. Most start out unsure, but once they get the hang of the glove and all, they're not bad!

DARN. In singapore, the only lucrative sports are long distance events, be it Triathlon, Biathlon, 10k runs, half marathon, marathon. At least when i train, i train with some monatary incentive. Gone are the days of school and passion. We need some financial motivation too! And that's where it gets depressing. Like "What am i training for?"
Then you begin to understand why people quit track. There's really no motivation or incentive by yourself.
And that's quite sad.

NEW CAR IS IN!! Camry 2.0 which is more of a passenger/vip car than a driver's car. Meaning it's a big, smooth handling and stable car. But as a driver, I just dont feel it. haha

CURVE SLIDER FORK
Hmmm for some reason my blogger is screwed. Like ok i can type but i cant post pictures and all :/
Anyway alittle update!
Trained today at VJC, supposed to train yesterday but had tutorials to do so wanted to get them off my chest first. Did 200m x 8 at a fast controlled pace with about 3mins rest. Didnt want to time either as i just wanted to work on my posture, smoothness as well as aerobic work, and i must say i ran a good training. Felt good and fast, and of course shagg at the end but no pain no gain!
VJ Track was empty and nice to run (:
Afterwhich headed back to siglap hill to do some fast sprints n bounding upslope, before calling it an effective training day (:
+
Booked ticket to USA! :D Leaving on the 13th to SanF, will arrive SanF and subsquently Austin on the same day as I'll gain time due to time difference. Long travel flight tho :/ Will stay in Austin until the 17, were we'll leave for Orlando, Flordia for 17,18,19,20, drive to Miami on the 21,stay until 23, fly to LA, spend Xmas there, and drive to Vegas on the 27, stay until 31st, where we'll fly back to SanFrancisco on leave for HK on the 3rd (: Gonna be a blast (:
+
Wow, alot of people signed up for softball. Goona make my selection difficult (: *evil laughs. maybe i'll start of with a 1 k run. Only those under 4 minutes will qualify. The rest go home. hahaha but yeah, thought of a systematic way to do it la.
After a warm up jog and stretch. Start with pairs, throwing/catching with each other. 50 times at 20m from each other. From there can already see who has motorskills problems. haha Then change partner and increase to 30m. This should filter down who can or cannot catch/throw.
Great thing is will get help from VJ softballers! :D

Anyway here are some lost pics i didnt post cos blogger screwed up!! IBG, track and Dnd! :D

Robin Hood
In the past, the captains of the team usually one of, if not the best in that team. But now, the captains are usually the ones that have better social skills and actually put in the effort to organise and help the team, ie does all the dog shit. You dont see the top athletes even bothering to help out, simply because they're too caught up and too busy being the best.

KR DND
WOW. Ok today i woke up at 1pm :/ must be the for some reason super shagg week i had that most probably started with last monday's lab report until 4am and never really recovered from it! haha
IBG track was fun. Well, partly cos my team was so strong that it's almost disgusting to watch. haha 4x100m team was Daryl, myself, joseph and sharman. All exchanges were quite bad. Daryl caught me early, I had to call up early to slow joseph down, and Joseph couldnt catch sharman so had to brake before the box.haha But nonetheless, 43.9s from video replays is a pretty quick time for an IBG team. haha Still lose to merritt tho :/
4X400 was my showpiece event. I didnt run particularly fast at 50.9s, but at least my shape and posture was quite nice throughout the run and i had fun. After my leg, well from the video noise, the crowd already knew the winner (: Mark had to chiong partly cos his ego couldnt make him slack, and resulted in that oh so cute face we all saw on facebook. Then last part dying but act cool but turning around to see where the others were but truthfully you'll need a binoculous. haha Andy was the most slack but got the job done.
Medley had an interesting change i made. Changing the 400m girls to 200m and the 800 girls to 600m. Saves a lap, some dignity, and doesnt make it so scary for the girls.
Rach pang was up against Peixun and she did a pretty good job! But Matthew Kang of Cblock had a one to 2 seconds lead when Pang passed to Sharman who ran well, but Kang somehow still could outkick him despite running 4x4 too! wow.
Our girls got 3rd for 4x1 losing to B and C block, and 1st for 4x4 thanks to a good run by amelia and camielle, our commando freshie. She literally played EVERY SINGLE IBG SPORT. No wait. She PLAYED every single IBG sport. haha
+
So for some reason the week was pretty rough and tight for time. Like i didnt have time for any training. Just work. And dollhouse! hahaha
Friday was KR dnd and i was dressed as a crocodile! I cant believe i pulled it off and although my crocodile was kewt and had some standard, i think people was more amazed that LANCE was doing this and so on instead of acting cool and boring. haha Our dnd was at the bukit timah csc club there! The food was pretty good i must say! As in worth that $48 (:
Gerald won mr KR! haha but rach pang put on a fantastic show too with dance moves never seen on this planet. hahaha The best question of the night was for our e block pageants, "What is one thing you will never do for your bf/gf?" And rolling on from all the ibg noise curfew thing, gerald replied:"I will do anything for my gf, but i will never ever make noise for her after 10pm!"
Pics to come!
+
Oh oh guess what!!!! I WENT TO ENGINE BASH! hahaha partly cos of the free ticket and 2 Kent Ridgeans were pageants, one from e block! Her name's EDNA and she's Ester's sister but they totally do not look alike. haha The sad thing was the two kr-eans did not win a single title la! hahah There was 5 titles including MR/MRS engine.
But i must say the most handsome guy and prettiest girl won. haha And this year's contestants was definitely much better than last. The MCs and in between performances were quite interesting too. Coupled with eblockers and other kr peeps, time passed pretty fast. Of course i didnt stay for the clubbing la, just went home (: damn i'm such a good boy. And i redeemed my one free drink for a glass of - COKE. hahaha

Self Belief
Sometimes the world thinks you are great, people look up to you, people think that you are happy and that you're having everything your way. But inside you're crushed. Feeling sad, self belief slowly draining away. Goals you set for yourself when you were little starts to become more and more of a distant dream. Dreams. Will only be dreams if you stop trying. But what if you tried your best, and you still fall short. Positive thinking will say, at least you tried your best. But the painful truth will probably be, you aint good enough.
So what do you do next?
